What does it mean to be an ERA Member?
Being a Member of ERA means being part of one of the most important and prestigious international Medical Associations. One of the main goals of the ERA is to encourage and report advances in the field of clinical nephrology, dialysis, renal transplantation, and other related subjects.
How to become an ERA Member?
To become a Member you must first create your ‘My ERA account’ , and then complete the online application form (My Membership, Become a Member).
Please login with your personal current and correct e-mail address, as all communication from ERA will only be sent by e-mail. Important: sponsor/third party e-mail addresses are not accepted.

Membership follows the calendar year, January – December, and must be renewed on a yearly basis.
Membership Renewal
Members must pay their annual membership fee to remain active Members and to continue to receive all membership benefits.
Membership is only considered ‘uninterrupted’ if the annual membership fee is paid on a regular basis (i.e. every year with no interruptions), thus in order to remain an active Member, the membership fee must be settled each year. Click here to renew your membership.
Membership Categories
Regular
Members receive all benefits including online access and hard copies of the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT).
Online
Members receive all benefits including online access to the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT).
Reduced
Members receive all benefits without access to the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT).
Students
Members receive all benefits, free of charge, including online access to the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT).
Exclusively reserved to Members who are ≤28 years of age (from 18 up to 28 years of age).
When applying for a student membership, new Members are required to upload a scanned copy of an official document where the birth date is clearly marked and a scanned copy of their student declaration-book
As a student you automatically become Member of the ‘Young Nephrologists’ Platform’ (YNP).
Student membership ends at the end of the 28th year of age.
Junior Members
Members receive all benefits including online access to the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT) at a special annual membership fee.
Exclusively reserved to Members who are between 29 and 40 years of age.
When applying for junior membership, new Members are required to upload a scanned copy of an official document where the birth date is clearly marked.
As junior Member you automatically become Member of the ‘Young Nephrologists’ Platform’ (YNP).
Junior membership ends at the end of the 40th year of age.
Senior Members
Active and current Members who have been Member for more than 15 consecutive and uninterrupted years, who have reached the age of 60 and who have retired from practice, can become a Senior Member of the ERA. The senior membership status is NOT given automatically, but must be requested to the ERA Membership Office at membership@era-online.org.
Patients
Patients can apply to become Members and receive all benefits, free of charge, including online access to the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT).
When applying for a patient membership, new Members are required to upload a scanned copy of their medical status signed by their physician and to contact the Membership Office at membership@era-online.org.
Caretaker
Caretakers can apply to become Members and receive all benefits, free of charge, including online access to the journal ‘Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation’ (NDT).
When applying for Caretaker Membership, new Members are required to upload a scanned copy of their official status as caretaker / relative of a renal medical patient signed by their physician and to contact the Membership Office at membership@era-online.org. Reserved to relatives or persons taking care of patients. Not for physicians, nurses or hospital/institution staff.
Membership Facts
What does it mean to be a Full or an Associate Member / What is the difference between Full and Associate membership?
Full Members
Full Members are Members who live in Europe or in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
Associate Members
Associate Members are Members living in all the other countries. They are entitled to the same benefits as the Full Members except if they apply for a certain ERA fellowship, if they are elected for office in one of the ERA bodies, or if they receive certain awards or votes.
