ESENeph 2021 report

Further success for the European Specialty Examination in Nephrology (ESENeph) examination

The ESENeph examination, which has replaced the European Certificate in Nephrology examination, was developed as a collaboration between the UEMS Renal Section and Boards and the ERA, in conjunction with the Royal Colleges of Physicians, UK and the British Renal Association.

“We are very pleased with the results of the second sitting of the ESENeph examination held on 17th February” said Prof. David Lappin, Exam Lead ESENeph at The UEMS Renal Section and Boards. “Thirty-eight doctors from across Europe and ERA affiliated countries sat the exam” said Prof. Lappin. “Twenty-two of the thirty-eight candidates were successful, representing a pass rate of 57.9 %. A further twelve doctors, whose exam was delayed due to the Covid pandemic, are due to sit a contingency examination on the 12th of May.

We are pleased to announce that all successful candidates will be offered a year’s free membership of the ERA for the coming year.

Delivering a high-quality exam will drive standards, promote harmonisation of training across the EU, and further enhance opportunities for free movement of doctors across the EU. Furthermore, the recent recognition of the examination by the General Medical Council, UK, will strengthen the examination’s appeal for those considering training in the UK post-Brexit” concluded Prof. Lappin.
