ERA works to build and consolidate bridges that can reduce the gaps in the medical field of nephrology

Public Affairs

Through Public Affairs activities, we work to connect ERA and the needs of kidney patients with public decision-makers and policy-making institutions at the various relevant levels of European and local governments.

To achieve this goal, ERA continuously strives to bring kidney health to the top of the European and international health policy agenda, creating and carrying out activities in order to raise awareness and collaborating closely with policy-making institutions specifically at EU level.

EKHA

EKHA

EKHA is an alliance of four societies created in 2007 to focus the attention of the political community and, through the media, of people at large, on the burden of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) considering patients’ morbidity/mortality as well as the socio-economic impact of dialysis and transplantation in Europe: besides the ERA, the European Kidney Patients’ Federation (EKPF, former CEAPIR), the European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses’ Association/European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA) and Dutch Kidney Foundation (DKF) are EKHA management committee members.

The EKHA management committee, which includes two representatives of ERA nominated by the Council, works closely with the people involved in the European health organization to raise awareness about CKD throughout Europe.

ASN - ERA - ISN Collaboration

On June 1,  2016, three major nephrology societies — the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), the European Renal Association (ERA), and the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) ― signed a declaration of collaboration. The organizations agreed that kidney disease is a global challenge that respects no boundaries or borders. Therefore, all available synergies should be used to fight kidney disease and improve the standard of care for kidney patients worldwide.

To create the best possible synergy, the three societies agreed to collaborate in:

  • helping physicians who have just started careers as nephrologists or are considering this possibility, locally, regionally and nationally
  • providing kidney professionals worldwide with more consistent, complete and up-to-date information about kidney diseases and treatments
  • advocating to ensure access to care and to harmonize efforts to prevent and treat kidney disease worldwide
  • creating joint initiatives to leverage the societies’ respective strengths.

National Societies

ERA is highly committed to strengthening its relations with the National Societies of Nephrology within its geographical area and also outside Europe and the countries bordering Europe and the Mediterranean Sea.

These represent their nation’s physicians and scientists dedicated to studying chronic kidney diseases. They work to promote patient care, advance medical research, and enlarge their community.

ERA officers regularly meet National Societies’ representatives during the National Presidents’ meeting, traditionally organised during the Annual Congress.

Other Societies

ERA actively collaborates with many medical societies, national and international. The collaboration requires a signed agreement between ERA and the other societies on the below points which may vary depending on the individual case:

  1. Ambassador exchange programme;
  2. Promotion of the respective associations and congresses online and onsite.
