About the collaboration
The European union of medical specialists (UEMS) is a non-governmental organisation representing national associations of medical specialists in the European Union and in associated countries. The UEMS is made up of 41 national member associations, which altogether compose the UEMS Council. The UEMS represents more than 50 medical disciplines through various bodies and structures. The most important ones are the 43 specialist sections, such as nephrology, which represent independently recognised specialties.
In the case of the Section of Nephrology, the major scientific partner is ERA, which nominates a representative to the European specialty examination in nephrology (ESENeph) examination board, and with which is developing every closer ties in the provision of education and training.
The aim of this collaboration is to define European standards of medical education and training to support optimal patient care.
The UEMS Section of Nepghrology and ERA are working together to develop a common curriculum for European nephrologists: “Training Requirements for the Specialty of Nephrology -European Standards of Postgraduate Medical Specialist Training“.
