Karoline’s story

As I’m still a medical student and haven’t finished my studies thus far, this journey has taught me a lot about believing in myself and what can be achieved, even if I haven’t started my professional career yet. I have learned how beneficial and important working in a team with other more experienced individuals is and I am grateful for the support I have received to make this possible. Receiving the ERA National Grant was a great honor and is something I will definitely mention in my CV.

I think that this initiative is important to encourage especially the young members of our Societies. You don’t always need to have years of experience to achieve something relevant and it creates a base that will only help you further your career in the future. It’s also an opportunity for connection with other professionals and opens the gates to learn other skills and methods that you can then apply in your own career. It can help kickstart your career if you wish to be working in a particular field and most important of all, it serves as recognition for the hard work that you put in.

The ERA National Grant initiative encourages young members to present their work in a professional and bigger setting and thus, developing further skills important for their future career.
It’s a great opportunity for education and recognition within the field of nephrology and gives the young members of our community a voice.

The ERA membership grants you easy access to further education in the form of various journals as well as the other resources available on the ERA platform. The reception of the ERA National Grant at such a young age also gives me an advantage regarding my future application for certain positions.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend the 2024 ERA Congress due to personal obligations, but I will definitely aim to attend the one in 2025 as it is always a great opportunity to gain further insight into the field and educate myself on topics relevant for my professional career.
