Activity

Objectives:

  • Evaluate residual kidney function preservation in incremental hemodialysis (HD).
  • Assess the safety of incremental HD in incident patients.
  • Analyze electrolyte disorder control in incremental HD patients

Results:

  • Urinary output tends to be better preserved in patients undergoing incremental HD; however, the difference has not yet reached statistical significance and is still early for strong results.
  • Still early to confirm the safety of incremental HD. Currently, REAL-LIFE study appears to be safe, if compared mortality and hospitalization rates to other feasibility studies on incremental HD.
  • No differences in potassium levels were observed. Hyperphosphatemia has shown a slightly higher prevalence in patients on incremental HD. A higher prevalence of acidosis in incremental HD patients underscores the importance of adequate bicarbonate supplementation.
