Nane’s story

The ERA short-term fellowship is a well-structured and organised programme which gives an opportunity to young doctors from different countries to see and compare with their home institution practice new types of medical observations and treatments. It's not a passive observership but an active, hands-on learning engagement. From my perspective, the ERA fellowship is more than just a training opportunity; it is a catalyst for professional growth and international collaboration. It effectively bridges gaps between different healthcare systems and disseminates best practices across Europe and beyond.

Of course I will write about my past ERA fellowship in my professional CV, without any doubt. Mentioning this fellowship in CV signals to a future employer, research collaborator a high-quality medical knowledge. It demonstrates a proactive approach to learning, an ability to adapt to a top-tier international clinical environment.

It served as a concentrated masterclass in advanced nephrology. It moved my understanding from theoretical knowledge to practical in the fields where we don't have opportunities in Armenia. I have built lasting relationships with doctors in Geneva University Hospital, creating opportunities for future collaborations, research and advice.

I gained hands-on experience in managing calcineurin inhibitor induced nephrotoxicity, high immunological risk in kidney transplant, ABO incompatible renal transplantation. I received practical knowledge in diseased kidney transplantation, I understood how this system works for Switzerland. I deepened my expertise in renal replacement therapy, particularly in peritoneal dialysis. I participated in multidisciplinary team meetings where complex patient cases were discussed with nephrologists, surgeons, infectologists, immunologists. Furthermore, this experience has given me the material and confidence to become a local educator, sharing the guidelines and techniques I learned with my colleagues at my home institution.
